Senior Design Team sdmay21-28 • Development of IoT-CDC (Cyber Defense Competition) based on ISEAGE

Hello, welcome to our senior design site, please look around!

Problem and Project Statement:

Nowadays, IoT (Internet of Things) technology has developed rapidly. The IoT products, such as webcams, smart plugs, smart locks, and programmable thermostat, have come into everyone’s life. These small wireless devices make our lives easier, but also pose security threats to our privacy. Many physical devices contain security loopholes that allow a remote attacker to compromise and steal personal information. In this project, an IoT device with security vulnerabilities will be selected to emulate large defected IoT products in our life. The device will be integrated into the ISEAGE testbed, to emulate events and attacks on the traditional internet. The virtual copy of the device will later be used in the CDC (Cyber Defense Competition). To accomplish the goal for this project, we will first study and understand how ISEAGE and CDC work. After we search and select a vulnerable IoT device, we will look into its architecture and operating system to create a virtual image and integrate it into the ISEAGE. Finally, we will identify and demonstrate attack and defense strategies against the developed IoT device.

Our approach:

Our senior design team has split into two separate sub-teams. The teams will consist of a team leader, a lead IoT engineer, and a lead network engineer. The teams will be working on seperate IoT devices. This allows teams to work separately, but also in parallel with one another.
